Completing another week of Awesomeness here at goBRANDgo! I am reflecting on what wins to discuss. Overall it was an exhausting week as projects continue to come in and we crank through them. We are now hiring– yes, I said it- hiring a medium level programmer to help share the workload. But to the wins, last week Derek and I met for our Quarterly Advisors meeting with Steven Harris and Teresa Ruzika of Rubin Brown, Jack Mannebach of Enterprise Bank and Trust, and Bob Guest of Affinity Law Group. We meet quarterly with these advisers to evaluate how our business is doing and I have to say that I left our meeting energized and excited from their feedback. The whole team here at goBRANDgo! has invested a lot of time into improving our business and we are seeing a lot of those efforts start to pay off with better processes and systems.

Another huge win was getting to hang out at the State of St. Louis event, Friday morning. Where Mayor Francis Slay, County Executive Charlie Dooley, County Executive Steve Ehlman, and County Executive Mark Kern all discussed how St Louis is doing as a region overall. I go to this event every year and this was definitely the most positive it has been in the last 3 years. All signs are looking to a great economy here locally and we are optimistic about St. Louis’ future. When asked for questions from the audience, Derek boldy raised his hand and asked, “Would you all please talk about what you are doing to support young entrepreneurship in your respect counties and city’s?” This question launched the panel into a large discussion that took the rest of the event. The win for this was that goBRANDgo! was announced to quite a few people and a voice for young entrepreneurship reached out. Subsequent meetings have been set up with Mayor Slay’s office and we hope to meet with the other executives as well.

Lastly, we received a great referral from an awesome client, Skeleton Key (custom application developers) for another company looking for SEO help. I was able to book the meeting and am excited at working with more great people like them!

My biggest win for this week was probably Belinda Joy Montegani’s Wedding. As a former goBRANDgo!er herself, she was looking fantastic in her wedding gown. As for the rest of the team, we had the pleasure of being a part of her fantastic moment. If the picture doesn’t do us justice, then we don’t want to talk to you. We have a sexy office generally, but give us a reason and we clean up to explode people’s minds. I am pretty sure some blood pressure was raised that evening.

Great wins: BNI Cross Chapter Cocktail Event went fantastically. A good chance to network outside of your normal circles, and a lot of fun seeing all your professional peers wrap each other in toilet paper, make a gigantic tissue mess, and try to stack apples.

New intern, Connor, doing some temp work with us, also kicking ass. No name taking, but we will teach him.

Had a meeting at Jilly’s Cupcake bar with Dan and Risa from V-Kool.

Brandon and Derek were finally accepted into EO ( Entrepreneurs Organization). Huge win, like world series win. That was like the world series of entrepreneurship. A lot of people play, we win. Just a little bit empowergizing.

Well there have been birthdays flying about the last couple weeks. Cam our fashion model/programmer came in on his planned day off to help hammer out a project, ended up staying late and therefore arriving late to his own bday dinner. And do you know why? Because if he didn’t do it, it wouldn’t get done? Yes. Because the team told him he had to? Yeah on that. Because he loves us and wants us to succeed even at the cost of his own happiness? Not likely. The real secret, he knew we wouldn’t let him have a shitty birthday. Simple.

Katie, Krystyna, Tim and I prepared him a monster french toast breakfast with mimosas . Then we fed him throughout the day. Sometime during the lunch hour, Camron, being the overjoyed bday workaholic saw that Katie was having a down moment. The Solution:

Sexy Domo Photo Shoot!

Happy Bday to us, and to you, Cam. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Brandon is also growing older. Celebratory bday cookies all around and then we overbooked his calendar, yeah for bday meetings! I don’t know if his heart stops beating if he isn’t doing business of some type. I hope he goes home late, emails until midnight then parties hardcore for 30 minutes before getting 6 hours of sleep every night.

If your birthdays are near the holidays, that sucks, but happy bday anyways. You will most likely only get one present with a card that says merry xmas and happy bday from everyone.

I recently had the opportunity to hear Dr Jason Selk, the Director of Mental Toughness for the St Louis Cardinals, speak at an Entrepreneur’s Organization event. It was a really great presentation filled with real things and real actions that can be taken on a daily basis in order to improve the quality of each of our lives.

What’s the secret? Simple really. When presented with a negative thought, problem, or challenge, can you within 60 seconds replace all negative or problem-focused thought with solution-focused thinking. There are two ways to approach life…with PCT (Problem-Centric Thought) or RSF (Relentless Solution Focus). RSF is about continually pushing yourself to start looking for a solution within 60 seconds of a negative thought or problem popping into your head. This is most easily be accomplished by asking yourself one question, “What is one thing I can do differently that could make this better?”

It really comes back to the ol’ “whatever you think about, you’ll get more of” or as Dr Selk defined it, Expectancy Theory: “That which you focus on expands.” If all you think about are problems and what is wrong with the world, then all you will see around you are more problems and more things wrong…same phenomenon that happens when you start car shopping; all of a sudden you see that car you are looking at everywhere.

Dr Selk talked about how mentally tough people are optimistic and focus on the solution rather than the problem. Optimistic is a word that typically gets a bad wrap, but let’s not confuse blind optimism which depends on a strategy centered around hope and wishes, with what I see as optimism, which is an overwhelming belief that “this too shall pass” and there is a lesson in every challenge if the right perspective is maintained…no matter high high the hill or long the shot. Mentally tough people, as Dr Selk explained, believe every problem, no matter how big or small, has a solution…you just have to be willing to break it down and put one foot in front of the other in order to make progress toward a solution.

Back to the original claim of what the Secret to Life is? Studies have shown that people who practice a RSF way of thinking and maintain an optimistic outlook on life have shown in studies to live longer, be happier, healthier, and more successful…which to me, pretty much hits on all the important things in life.

Now, I know simple and easy live miles apart, but are you willing to put this simple advice to work? The next time your mind gets invaded by a negative thought and you start spiraling down, all you have to do is continually ask yourself one question…

“What is one thing I can do differently that could make this better.”

…and see how your life will change.

Making friends is a difficult thing to do these days. You have to meet the people, somehow stick out in their memory, leave them, remember them, then hunt them down and friend them on Facebook to make them your official friend. Remember people, nothing is real until its on the internet, including friendship.

With that said, lets talk about all of the friends we have been making here at goBRANDgo! First and foremost, Scott “The Name Tag Guy” Ginsberg (@nametagscott) volunteered his time, his girlfriend’s time, and a lot of great insights. He has an amazing story and I highly recommend you meet him, hear him speak, and/or purchase all of his books in triplicate. Other than his story leading up to his, AHA! moment, he had knowledge to shovel upon our heads. All about approachability and branding yourself. Favorite quote: “Anger is the ember of initiative.” If you don’t like something, change it! Also, “how sticky is your brand?” That was great one, done while looking at his super sticky name tag. And my favorite little exercise to repeat:

Madlibs: (fill in the blanks, repost it below!)

My Brand seeks to create _________(blah) in moments of __________(blah)!

Say it to the person next to you, they should smile and nod, or laugh… it’s a madlib!

We already got some great feedback from some current friends: Stan Angelov of REMAX, Dr. Eddie Weller of Atlas Institute of Health, and a great post by our friends over at Abtrakt Marketing (sorry i don’t know how to turn the “k” backwards)

It’s on the internet, you are our friends, we also have some other big wins, started work for Ride on St. Louis! A new friend of goBRANDgo! They were my friends first. Also, it was fantastic to get so many of our clients, friends, new friends, and some random people out to our office for our go!Getter Series. Come on out to the next one too. Friends are WINS!
